On 20 October, Aram Ghazaryan, Director of the Rescue Service and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, hosted a delegation led by Wen Xian, Vice Mayor of Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, at the newly opened administrative complex of the Sevan Water Rescue Detachment. The delegation was visiting Armenia within the framework of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17).
Accompanied by Aram Ghazaryan, the delegation members were introduced to the detachment’s technical equipment, including water rescue gear, specialised equipment and other technical means. Their operational functions, capabilities and specific features of use were presented.
The delegation members also toured the administrative complex, viewing the building’s facilities, existing infrastructure and the equipment provided in service and work areas.
Following the tour, a working meeting was held, during which the parties discussed prospects for developing cooperation in disaster risk management, firefighting and the organisation of rescue operations, as well as opportunities to exchange professional experience.
Aram Ghazaryan emphasised the importance of international cooperation in developing professional capacities, introducing modern technologies and state-of-the-art equipment, and improving the effectiveness of efforts to ensure public safety.
Wen Xian, Vice Mayor of Beijing, commended the Sevan Water Rescue Detachment’s technical equipment and the working conditions provided for its personnel. Wen Xian also outlined Beijing’s experience in ensuring safety on bodies of water, presenting ongoing efforts to prevent drowning incidents, raise public awareness and effectively organise rescue services on bodies of water.
Recognising the importance of the friendly relations established between Armenia and China, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
